Group Staff Alexander J. Kone Transportation
Analyst Alex Kone is a transportation planner
with research and practical experience in planning and community relations,
programs, and implementation of policy. His background includes community
development, project management, public relations, and policy analysis. In addition, Mr. Kone is skilled in
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and a variety of design software
applications. Since
joining KFH Group in 2007, Mr. Kone has participated on transit planning
projects in rural and urban areas. For
a fixed-route bus study in Georgetown, Texas, he conducted an analysis of
local needs and conditions and assisted with route planning and public
participation. He conducted a route
performance analysis and parking supply research in Maui, Hawaii. Prior to
joining KFH Group, Mr. Kone assisted on transportation projects across Texas
while interning with RJ Rivera Associates, a transportation planning firm in
Austin. He contributed to the final
reports detailing the conclusions from the alternatives analysis and public
hearing phases of expansions of two roads outside of San Antonio. Also, he took part in the preliminary
research and analysis of a comprehensive study of the 26 border crossings
between Mexico and Texas. Prior to his
start in planning, Mr. Kone worked in public relations for political
officials in both New York and the United Kingdom. Mr. Kone
is currently finishing his M.S.C.R.P. at the University of Texas. There he has matriculated in a rigorous
schedule involving public transportation planning, transit oriented design,
statistics, and design. Each class
requires substantial critical thinking and technical proficiency. He managed a project to develop an
interdisciplinary, comprehensive neighborhood design which was recently recognized
as a National Finalist in the Urban Land Institute G. D. Hines Urban Design
Competition. For his Master’s capstone
project, Mr. Kone will be researching and evaluating the feasibility of a
proposed light-rail line in Rochester, New York based upon the Federal
Transit Administration’s New Starts funding criteria. |
