Shenandoah County
Public Transportation Feasibility Study
The Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission (NSVRC), together with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce, Shenandoah County Government, and the towns of Edinburg, Mount Jackson, New Market, Strasburg, and Woodstock are studying the feasibility of implementing a new public transportation service for Shenandoah County residents.
Major study tasks include a community survey; a survey of major employers; stakeholder outreach; land use and population analysis; demand estimation; and the development of service, organizational, and funding alternatives. A transportation planning firm, KFH Group, is leading the technical work for the study, with direction from a local steering committee.
Community Surveys, Employer Surveys and Stakeholder Input
Survey were collected throughout the month of October and into early November. Focused surveys were developed for community members and employers. The study team also sought input from area stakeholders and met with key groups during October and November. The results from these efforts are provided in Technical Memorandum #1. Additional stakeholder meetings are likely to occur as the study moves forward.
