Transit Development Plan
Welcome to the project website for the Garrett County Transit Development Plan (TDP). This planning process provides the opportunity to review and assess the current Garrett Transit Service (GTS) system, to identify unmet transportation needs in Garrett County, and to develop an appropriate course of action for the near future. The completed TDP will then serve as a guide, providing a roadmap for implementing service changes, improvements, and/or potential expansion over the next five years.
This project website will be used to post interim documents for review by you and the community. Please see the link to the first two plan documents that provide a review of existing GTS services and discussion of demographics in Garrett County related to transportation. Background
Local transit systems in Maryland — like GTS — are required to conduct a TDP every five-to-six years. The most recent TDP for Garrett County was completed in February 2013. Like other transit systems in Maryland, GTS uses their completed plan as a basis for preparing their annual grant application for transit funding.
The planning process is being guided by a local advisory committee that includes the following key community stakeholders:
- Garrett County Chamber of Commerce
- Garrett County Community Action
- Garrett County Department of Human Services
- Garrett County Department of Planning and Land Management
- Garrett Transit Service
- Maryland Department of Transportation/Maryland Transit Administration
