California Statewide Rural Intercity Bus Study

The California Statewide Rural Intercity Bus Study Final Report is now available from the Caltrans Division of Mass Transportation (DMT).

This study makes recommendations regarding policy and program changes in the Caltrans program of assistance for rural intercity services under the federal Section 5311(f) funding program for rural intercity services.  It found that the overall coverage of the various operators provides for some type of intercity linkage to most of the places identified as having high or moderate needs.  However, these various services do not function as a network, and there are issues with connectivity and user information.  The study recommends shifting the focus of the program to address connectivity as the major state emphasis.

The report is lengthy, and it contains many maps and tables.  It is available in PDF form for download by chapter.  If you are unable to download these files, a CD with the PDF files can be provided; or if a paper copy or other alternative formats are needed, contact Mr. Fred Lenhart at the address below.
